EMDR and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Typical symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) include nightmares, flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, low self-esteem, relationship problems and persistent traumatic memories. EMDR can help alleviate these symptoms by reprocessing the incidents that caused the PTSD. Dysfunctional behavior originates from traumatic past events. When such events are identified they can be targeted, processed and integrated, resulting in adaptive and functional behaviors.

Core beliefs effect how we view ourselves and determine how we live our lives. Most core beliefs get installed in childhood. If we have experienced trauma, neglect or abandonment, we come to believe we are damaged, unworthy, incapable of giving or receiving love. These negative beliefs impact our thoughts, emotions and behavior, preventing us from living happy, productive lives, and being engaged in intimate, rewarding relationships. EMDR therapy can clear traumatic events from the system, allowing a return to life free from old images, beliefs and behaviors.
